The Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association of Ghana (VEPEAG) was established in October 1997 by individual farmers and exporters. The main activities and the operational areas of the association are the production of vegetables all year round for international and local markets as well as the supply of seeds and agro-chemicals to producers. Sweet potatoes, Okra, Chili, Tinda, Shallot and Turia are the main vegetables cultivated.

The promotion of small and medium-scale enterprise (SMEs) participation in institutional biogas technology penetration has been identified as one of the five key priority energy related National Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) in Ghana. This is in line with the country’s pursuit for low carbon development options which is identified in the national climate change policy (2014) as well as the sustainable development objectives articulated in the Ghana Shared Growth Development Agenda (GSGDA). To bring biogas as a low carbon energy source to a significant higher level in Ghana, the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) action plan intends to establish institutional biogas systems for 200 boarding schools, hospitals and prisons. At least 400 biogas systems have been built in Ghana, pre-dominantly using the fixed-dome, floating drum and Puxin technologies. The main reason to build a biogas systems is to improve the sanitation situation. Although there are several issues with existing biogas systems, many of these systems are functioning well. The Association was also formed to bring together all cocoa farmers in the country asa common front to champion a common goal to protect their interest towards positive growth and development. Cocoa farmers are confronted with a lot of challenges such as lack of access to credit facilities, housing facilities and quality agro inputs to maintain and expand their farms etc. Thus, many cocoa farmers borrow from private money lenders at very high interestrate of about 100% which is very difficult to repay. They also purchase unapproved and substandard agro chemicals from illegal dealers which are poisonous and have negative effects on the cocoa plant. This is because government interventions are inadequate to all their farms.
